Location
The library is so conveniently located in the 9th mile Shan monastery compound on Pyay Rd., where all the books are housed in a beautiful ancient renovated 50 x 25 building. It is a two-century old building and is so fitting to the purpose that we are using it for.
History
With the help and various kinds of support from all friends far and near, this 9th mile Shan Monastery library was set up and started functioning on December 15, 2010 inside the monastery compound. All thanks go to all those friends and especially to the chief monk who so kindly let us use the lovely ancient building that belongs to the monastery. It has been renovated and turned into a modern library. But this is just the first few steps that have been undertaken and we still have a long way to go. We request that all friends maintain the interest and support shown to us as we build this world of knowledge for our people.
Our thanks go to all patrons who have so kindly donated a number of office equipment, valuable books, printed materials and periodicals. We would still welcome with deep appreciation any kind of donation, be it be in cash or kind to make our library the best of its kind in the whole of Shan States. Thanks for your patronage and hope you will visit our library again!
Your regular patronage can help us set up a network among interesting people like you and join hands to work towards the betterment of our land.
The library started with a collection of about 3000 books when it started functioning in December 2010 and now the collection has increased to over 4000 books within 7 months. You can always help add more by donating books that you would like to share with others or subscribing new periodicals to update our patrons’ knowledge.
